Stranger Things Season 5 release date delayed? Here's all you need to know

The release of "Stranger Things" season 5 might be later than expected, according to a Variety interview with the Duffer Brothers. While 2025 was the initially announced release year, the creators suggest it could be missed.

Matt Duffer stated, “A lot of it hasn’t been decided, in terms of exactly the release dates and cadence. That’s one reason I’m not allowed to talk about it. We’re getting on a call in about a couple weeks about it. I just know it was very important for us and Netflix that we get it out this year. But even that is quite the push.”

Netflix and the show's creators want a 2025 release, but meeting that deadline is proving challenging. Season 4 experienced delays due to post-production. A potential delay raises concerns about a lengthy wait for fans, especially after season 4 aired in May 2022. A late 2025 release would mean a three-and-a-half-year gap, while a 2026 release would mean a nearly four-year wait.


Season 5 will transport viewers back to 1987, where the characters return to high school amidst mysterious and eerie paranormal events. The final episodes will continue exploring the Upside Down while paying homage to 1980s pop culture, complete with the series’ signature nostalgic soundtrack.

Four pivotal characters of Stranger Things -- Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas -- are likely to be back in the fifth season, as per a report on Dexerto.
