Southwest Airlines flight attendant dies at 50 during Hawaii layover; police investigate

A Southwest Airlines flight attendant died during a layover in Hawaii, with local police investigating the death as an unattended death.

The flight attendant was identified as 50-year-old Jennifer Lupton, according to authorities. The Honolulu Police Department said it opened an unattended death investigation in Waikiki on August 20.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and that detectives are interviewing people, reviewing surveillance footage and examining evidence.

"This is a thorough investigation that will take time. Detectives are conducting numerous interviews, reviewing and recovering surveillance video, and examining evidence as part of the investigative process," the department said in a statement.

The Honolulu Police Department said it would not release certain information while the investigation continues.

Southwest Airlines confirmed the death and said it is supporting Lupton's family and her co-workers while working with local authorities.

"The Southwest Airlines family is deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague during a layover in Hawaii," the airline said in a statement.
