Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 vs Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold: Which foldable should you buy?

The foldable phone battle is getting more interesting in 2026, with Samsung changing the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s design and Google taking a different approach with the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Both run Android 17, pack flagship hardware and bring plenty of AI features, but the two phones make very different choices on displays, cameras and design.

So, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 vs Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold — which foldable is better? Here’s how the two stack up on paper.

Both foldables start at around $1,900. However, Google offers more RAM at the entry level.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold gets 16GB RAM with 256GB storage, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 offers 12GB RAM with the same 256GB storage. At 512GB, Google again offers 16GB RAM for $2,019, compared with $2,099.99 for Samsung’s 12GB version.

At the top end, both offer 1TB storage and 16GB RAM, but the Pixel costs $2,249, while Samsung charges about $250 more.

Design: Samsung goes wide, Google stays tall

The biggest difference between the two foldables is their form factor.

Samsung has made the Galaxy Z Fold 8 shorter and wider, with a passport-style design. It has a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch internal screen, making the unfolded display particularly suited to watching videos and other media.

Google takes the opposite route. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is taller and narrower, with a 6.5-inch external display and a much larger 8-inch internal screen. That extra real estate should also make running two apps side-by-side more comfortable.

Samsung also offers more colour choices, including Lavender, Cream, Graphite and a Samsung-exclusive Pistachio option. Google keeps it simpler with Obsidian and Olive.

Display: Galaxy Z Fold 8 vs Pixel 11 Pro Fold

Both phones feature 120Hz displays, but their priorities are different.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED inner display with a 1,848 x 2,448 resolution and a 5.5-inch cover screen. Its 4:3 inner aspect ratio is particularly useful for video, with less awkward letterboxing.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold gets an 8-inch inner display with a 2,076 x 2,152 resolution and a 6.5-inch outer screen. It is also brighter on paper, reaching up to 3,600 nits, compared with 3,000 nits on Samsung.

But Samsung has another advantage: the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s crease is far less noticeable, thanks to its titanium alloy layer beneath the flexible screen. The Pixel's crease is more visible.

Performance and AI

Samsung uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while Google goes with its Tensor G6 chip. Both are built with AI workloads in mind, including on-device AI and Gemini features.

The Pixel has the edge on paper for AI because Google's Tensor chip is designed specifically around its Gemini ecosystem. Both phones also get seven years of OS and security updates and deep Gemini integration.

Google also offers features such as Magic Capture, while Samsung brings tools including Now Nudge and Photo Assist.

Cameras: Pixel takes the lead

This could be one of the biggest reasons to choose Google's foldable.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold has three rear cameras — a 48MP main sensor, 10.5MP ultrawide and 10.8MP telephoto — with up to 30x Super Res Zoom. It also gets 10MP selfie cameras on both displays.

Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 drops the dedicated telephoto camera, using a 50MP main and 50MP ultrawide setup instead. It supports up to 10x digital zoom. Samsung does, however, support 8K video recording, while Google tops out at 4K 60fps.

Battery and charging

Samsung packs a 4,800mAh silicon-carbon battery and supports 45W wired charging. It lasted 16 hours and 30 minutes in one PCMag test, while Engadget reported more than 28 hours in its own testing.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold has a 4,750mAh battery, supports 30W wired charging and up to 25W wireless charging. It also has built-in magnetic alignment for compatible wireless charging accessories.

On paper, there is no runaway winner.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 makes more sense for users who want a wider, media-friendly foldable, a less noticeable crease, a slimmer-feeling design and faster wired charging.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is the more compelling option for buyers prioritising RAM, cameras, AI features, a larger inner display and IP68 dust-and-water resistance.

At roughly $1,900, both are firmly premium purchases. But if cameras and value matter most, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold looks stronger on paper. If the priority is the overall foldable experience — particularly watching content on the inner screen — Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a strong case.
