At just 17, Natalia Kleinrichert has turned difficult experiences from her childhood into a growing effort to support people experiencing homelessness in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Bishop Dwenger High School senior founded a grassroots initiative called R.E.A.C.H., using her own experiences with medical challenges as motivation to help others facing difficult circumstances.

How Natalia Kleinrichert turned personal struggles into action

Kleinrichert's efforts did not begin with a large organisation or a formal nonprofit. Her desire to help others grew from her own experiences dealing with health challenges when she was younger.

Kleinrichert and her mother, Amy, have organised donation drives and community events to collect supplies and raise money for people in need.

Her efforts also included collecting hundreds of boxes of Girl Scout cookies for The Rescue Mission before she developed R.E.A.C.H. into a continuing community project.

Her community effort continues to grow

Kleinrichert planned another donation drive outside Parkview Field during a Fort Wayne TinCaps game on August 9, encouraging people to donate food, toiletries and other essential supplies.

The donations were intended for M.I.S.F.I.T.S. Ministry, a nonprofit that works directly with Fort Wayne's homeless community.

Rather than simply asking people for money, Kleinrichert encourages them to donate items that can immediately help someone in need.

Kleinrichert's story is ultimately about how a personal experience can become a reason to help others.
