Rapper Rick Ross was arrested early Thursday morning in Miami Beach. Ross, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts II, is facing charges of felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery related to an alleged domestic violence incident. Ross, 50, was booked at 6:10 a.m. into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center following his surrender to law enforcement.

As per reports, the alleged victim told police that Ross attacked her on August 28. Ross and the woman was said to be in a year-long relationship. Ross, the woman said, was angered after discovering she had been tagged in a photo on Instagram. Following this, Ross questioned her fidelity, leading to a physical altercation.

The affidavit, as per reports, claimed that Ross struck her multiple times in the face and chest, restricted her breathing by twisting the collar of her hoodie, and slammed her against a wall. The woman told investigators that during the incident, Ross additionally pushed her to the floor and attempted to spray her with a showerhead. The woman managed to leave the bathroom and later gathered her belongings and left the residence after Ross had departed.


The alleged victim reportedly have given a sworn statement and photographs documenting her injuries. Meanwhile, a surveillance footage has surfaced in which a friend of the woman was seen arriving to assist her, only to be turned away by Ross. On the day of the incident, the affidavit states, Ross was described as "enraged" and accused the woman of lying about her relationships.

Ross turned himself into authorities on Thursday morning and has since pleaded not guilty to the charges. His bond was set at $6,000 total, consisting of $5,000 for the felony charge and $1,000 for the misdemeanor. Ross's attorney Bradley Horenstein told KCCI that the allegations of are false and he is innocent. "All I can say is that the allegations are false. He's innocent. Everything is going to come out." Horenstein further requested that the public allow the legal process to unfold before forming judgments, asserting that “the truth will come in.”

This arrest follows a recent accusation made by Ross' former girlfriend, Jazzma Kendrick, who claimed in a social media post that Ross had previously injured her during a different incident. Ross had not publicly responded to Kendrick's allegations prior to his arrest.

Historically, Rick Ross has faced various legal issues, including an arrest in 2008 on gun and drug possession charges. His most recent legal troubles involved a 2015 incident in which he and a bodyguard were accused of kidnapping and battery against a groundskeeper on his property in Georgia. Ross reached a plea deal for that case, which resulted in a $10,000 fine and time served. Ross, known for hits like "Hustlin'" and "Blowin' Money Fast," has been a significant figure in the hip-hop industry for over two decades.

Ross's arraignment is scheduled for October 22.
