Vladimir Putin said Russia was ready to help mediate peace efforts in the Middle East during a phone call with Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, AFP reported, as tensions in the region continue to escalate amid ceasefire talks between the West Asian nation and the United States.

The Russian leader earlier stressed the need for an immediate halt to hostilities and called for resolving the conflict through political and diplomatic means rather than military action.

Putin, has previously, expressed concerns over the ongoing violence and its wider regional implications, while maintaining contact with multiple stakeholders, including Gulf nations, as part of broader efforts to de-escalate the situation.
