Oracle layoffs August 2026: ‘6am layoff email’ may hit inboxes next month on this date as managers asked for names, after 10,000+ workers were cut in March

Oracle layoffs 2026: Oracle employees could face another layoff wave on September 1, with reports suggesting 6am job-cut emails may arrive as managers prepare lists of affected workers. Managers have been asked to draw up lists of employees whose ...

More than 10,000 Oracle employees received similar 6 am layoff notices during the March cuts

Oracle layoffs news: Oracle employees could be bracing for another unsettling morning on September 1, with reports suggesting that layoff emails could arrive as early as 6 am. The company has reportedly asked managers to submit lists of employees who could be affected by a fresh round of job cuts, raising fears that workers could once again wake up to an email from “Oracle Leadership” telling them their roles have been eliminated.

The reported timing is particularly significant because Oracle's previous round of layoffs in March reportedly saw more than 10,000 employees receive termination emails around 6 am. Workers in the US, India, Canada and Mexico were among those affected. Oracle has not commented on the latest reports.

Why September 1 is important for Oracle employees

According to reports from Business Insider, citing people familiar with the plans and an internal document, Oracle is preparing for another round of layoffs this month. Managers have reportedly been asked to provide lists of employees who could be affected. Some teams could see cuts reaching double-digit percentages.

Oracle reportedly wants to reduce its payroll before September 1, when its second fiscal quarter begins. That means employees could have only a few weeks before the company potentially carries out another major restructuring.

For workers who experienced the March layoffs, the date could bring back uncomfortable memories.

The 6am Oracle layoff email

The biggest concern for many employees may be how the layoffs are communicated. During the earlier round, thousands of Oracle workers reportedly received emails at around 6 am local time. In some cases, employees said there was no prior HR call or warning from their managers.

Instead, an email from “Oracle Leadership” reportedly contained a blunt message: “we have made the decision to eliminate your role.” System access was also reportedly cut the same morning.

Oracle already cut 21,000 jobs

More than 10,000 Oracle employees received similar 6 am layoff notices during the March cuts. The reported layoffs would come after a huge reduction in Oracle's workforce.

Oracle's headcount fell by approximately 21,000 employees, or 13%, during the fiscal year that ended May 31. Its workforce dropped from around 162,000 employees to approximately 141,000.

The company also recorded $1.8 billion in restructuring costs, up sharply from $374 million a year earlier. Oracle has linked some of its workforce reductions to the growing adoption of artificial intelligence.

In its annual filing, the company said AI adoption across its operations had already resulted in workforce reductions and could continue to do so.

Oracle is spending billions on AI infrastructure

The layoffs are taking place against the backdrop of Oracle's massive AI spending. The company spent approximately $55.7 billion on infrastructure during the last fiscal year as it works to expand its data-centre and cloud capacity.

Oracle also burned around $23.7 billion more cash than it generated, while raising $43 billion in debt and another $5 billion through stock sales. The company expects to raise roughly $40 billion more this year.

A TD Cowen estimate from January suggested that eliminating 20,000 to 30,000 jobs could potentially free up $8 billion to $10 billion in incremental free cash flow.

The figures highlight the financial pressure surrounding Oracle's AI expansion. The company needs enormous amounts of capital to build infrastructure while also trying to control costs.

Oracle's business is growing despite the layoffs

What makes the potential job cuts particularly striking is that Oracle's business is not simply shrinking. Revenue increased 17% in the last fiscal year, while its cloud infrastructure business grew by 77%.

Net income also jumped 95% to $6.13 billion in a recent quarter. CEO Clay Magouyrk has pointed to approximately $553 billion in remaining performance obligations, arguing that demand for AI computing is outpacing supply.

Yet Oracle shares are down about 26% this year, with concerns about debt and the broader software industry's exposure to AI weighing on the stock.

Could another 6am email arrive?

Oracle has not confirmed the reported September layoffs, so the plans remain unconfirmed publicly.

But with managers reportedly preparing lists and the company seeking to reduce payroll around the start of its new fiscal quarter, September 1 has become an important date for employees watching for signs of another restructuring.

And after the March layoffs, there is one detail that may be especially unsettling: the possibility of another 6am Oracle layoff email appearing in employees' inboxes.
