Oracle layoffs 2026 September 1 update: US employees ‘watch’ Slack counts after no 6 AM job-cut email — when could layoffs happen?
Oracle layoffs 2026 September 1: Oracle employees across the US are now “watching” Slack counts as September 1 arrives, with thousands anxiously checking their inboxes for signs of another layoff wave. The date had become a source of fear after reports suggested managers were preparing lists of employees who could be affected by fresh job cuts.

At around 6 am, some workers were expecting the same kind of termination emails that arrived on March 31, when Oracle cut roughly 10,000 jobs. Instead, employees were left watching internal systems and online forums for clues.

Why Oracle employees are watching Slack counts

With no official confirmation from Oracle, employees have turned to whatever signals they can find. On Reddit's r/employeesOfOracle, workers across the US have been sharing updates in a closely watched megathread.

Some are tracking Oracle's Slack member count almost like a stock ticker. Numbers reportedly moved from 150,198 to 150,181 and then 150,113, prompting speculation that employees were being removed from the system.

Others cautioned that the changes could simply reflect normal attrition, making Slack numbers an unreliable indicator of layoffs.

Why September 1 became a feared date

The anxiety follows a Business Insider report from August that said Oracle managers had been asked to prepare lists of potentially affected employees, with the company looking to reduce payroll as its second fiscal quarter began.

Oracle has not confirmed a September 1 layoff round and has declined to comment on the reports.

The March 31 cuts are a major reason employees are watching the clock. Termination emails reportedly arrived around 6 am local time and told affected workers that their roles had been eliminated and that the same day was their last working day.

Oracle already cut about 10,000 jobs

The March layoffs affected employees across the US, India, Canada and Mexico, including workers in Oracle Health, Cloud, Sales, Customer Success and NetSuite's India Development Centre. Employees described the process as abrupt, with some saying there had been no prior HR meeting or manager conversation.

Now, rumors are circulating that any new cuts could happen on September 15 or September 30 instead of September 1. Oracle's workforce fell by about 21,000 employees, or 13%, to roughly 141,000 during the fiscal year ended May 31.

At the same time, the company is spending heavily on AI and data-centre infrastructure. FY2026 revenue rose 17% to $67.4 billion, while cloud infrastructure revenue jumped 77%.

Capital expenditure, however, surged to $55.7 billion, compared with $21.2 billion a year earlier, while free cash flow was negative $23.7 billion.

For Oracle employees, the numbers are secondary to one immediate question: when will the next email arrive?

For now, there is no official confirmation of a September 1 layoff wave. Until Oracle speaks, employees appear set to keep watching their inboxes, internal systems—and those Slack counts.
