NYPD knows the name of UnitedHealthcare CEO’s killer but won’t release it yet

New York City Mayor Eric Adams says police are withholding the suspected killer's name in the Brian Thompson case. Thompson was murdered earlier this week. The mayor explained withholding the name prevents tipping off the suspect. “We don’t want to release that now,” Adams said when asked about a suspect. “If you do, you are basically giving a tip to the person we are seeking and we do not want to give him an upper hand at all. Let him continue to believe he can hide behind the mask. We revealed his face. We’re going to reveal who he is and we’re going to bring him to justice.”

The investigation is entering its fourth day. Police have released images of the suspect but not his identity. Adams said investigators are making progress. “And the manner in which they were able to follow his footsteps to recover evidence – some of it is known, some of it is unknown – but the net is tightening and we’re going to bring this person to justice,“ he stated.

Thompson, an insurance company CEO, was killed earlier this week. Some members of the public have expressed support for the killer online, citing negative experiences with insurance companies. Investigators believe the killer acted alone and that the murder was premeditated. They suspect the killer may be a former employee or customer of Thompson's company.
