Witnesses describe the chaos
Several witnesses recounted the terrifying moments when the vehicle intentionally slammed into people, and the driver exited the car to open fire. Kevin Garcia, 22, who spoke with CNN, recalled the frightening sight of the truck hitting people and said, “A body came flying at me.” He also mentioned hearing gunshots being fired during the incident. Another witness, Whit Davis, 22, from Shreveport, Louisiana, explained that he was leaving a nightclub when the incident occurred. He described people yelling, running, and trying to seek shelter.“Everyone started yelling and screaming and running to the back, and then we basically went into lockdown for a little bit,” Davis said. When the lockdown was lifted, police instructed people to leave quickly, and Davis saw several dead bodies that hadn’t been covered up, as well as many people receiving first aid.
Authorities confirm casualties and urge caution
According to Nola Ready, the city’s emergency response department, the incident left 10 people dead and 30 injured. Many of the injured were quickly transported to local hospitals. Authorities have urged people to avoid areas around Canal and Bourbon Streets, where the tragic event occurred.The incident has shocked the city, and the investigation is still ongoing as authorities work to determine the details of the event.
