Rubio says keto left him ‘near-psychotic’
Rubio said he tried a keto diet around four or five years ago, but the experience was far from enjoyable. “And you just eat all this protein, and so you go through this massive withdrawal from sugar and carbohydrates for the first 72 hours. It was a near-psychotic event for me,” Rubio said. His wife agreed with his assessment, as Rubio explained how cutting sugar affected his mood. “Like, if I did this in this job, I would be, 'Mr President, we must bomb Paraguay',” Rubio said.

When asked by Trump why he would want to take such an extreme step, Rubio joked that his lack of sugar would be the explanation. “I don’t know, I’m just really mad; I haven’t had any sugar.”
Rubio stressed that his comments were not meant to discourage people from trying keto.
“So the point is that you can’t – it really is not as – I’m not against this diet. I’m not asking that we ban it. I encourage people to try it. I’m just saying it’s not for everyone. That’s what I’m saying,” Rubio said.

Rubio isn't following RFK Jr.'s meat and sauerkraut diet
Miller also asked Rubio whether he had adopted Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s reported diet centered around red meat and fermented vegetables.Rubio quickly rejected the idea. “No. No, this is a crazy diet. This is a – this is a diet that consists of eating sauerkraut and meat. Now, you understand, like, this is not a sustainable thing,” Rubio said.
He also pointed to the practical challenges of following such a restrictive diet while traveling. “But he has to travel with coolers of sauerkraut,” Rubio said.
His wife says Rubio loves Pop-Tarts and fast food
While Rubio said he supports the Make America Healthy Again movement, Jeanette Rubio offered a rather different picture of his personal eating habits.“I’m in favor of MAHA. Like, I think people should be healthy,” he said.
Jeanette then contradicted him, saying Rubio does not eat healthy at all and is fond of Pop-Tarts, sweets and all fast food.
Rubio says there is no ‘single typical day’ at State Department
Rubio also spoke about the unpredictable demands of serving as secretary of state, saying there is no ordinary workday when international crises can emerge at any hour.“Although we’ve been pretty busy on the national security front because of Iran and before that other things, but there’s no single typical day. Typically weekends are just a little slower, obviously but — and then the president has an insane work schedule. Like, he works every day, all day. You guys know that, too. So he doesn’t really have, like, days off or vacation time. There is really no slow time when it comes to national, international affairs,” Rubio told Miller.
He said some mornings can start particularly early, with foreign leader calls sometimes beginning around 7 a.m.
“So no day is typical, but generally speaking, if I had to plan a day, I would start — I start here at the State Department in the mornings and then try to be over at the White House before or shortly after noon and when the president really gets humming. And then obviously, or sometimes in the mornings he does a lot of foreign leader calls, so I’m on a lot of those calls in the morning. Those are sometimes as early as 7 a.m.,” he added.
