Michael Jordan's jersey from Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals sold for $12.26 million on Tuesday, setting a new auction record for Jordan memorabilia.

The jersey, worn during Jordan's sixth and final NBA championship season with the Chicago Bulls, was part of his celebrated "Last Dance" campaign. It was offered for sale by entrepreneur Ryan Gough through Joopiter, the digital auction house founded by musician and entrepreneur Pharrell Williams.

The sale surpassed the previous record for a piece of Jordan memorabilia — $10.091 million paid for the game-worn jersey Jordan wore in Game 1 of the same 1998 NBA Finals.

"Few objects in the history of sport embody greatness as completely as Michael Jordan's Game 3 jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals," Joopiter said in its online auction listing. The jersey had been estimated to fetch between $10 million and $15 million.

"Worn during The Last Dance ... it marks the culmination of an era that transformed basketball into a global cultural phenomenon. Today, it stands among the most important game-worn sports artifacts ever to come to market," Joopiter said.

The 1998 Finals marked the end of Jordan's second three-peat with the Bulls and his final championship with the team. Chicago defeated the Utah Jazz 4-2 in the series, with Jordan clinching the title with his famous late jumper in Game 6.

While the $12.26 million sale is a record for Jordan memorabilia, it remains well below the auction record for a game-worn sports item.

That record belongs to the jersey Babe Ruth wore during the 1932 World Series, when he famously called his shot. It sold for $24.12 million in 2024.
