Saturday: The first day of the holiday weekend may bring wet weather to two main regions. Upstate New York and New England are likely to experience scattered showers from a departing nor’easter, accompanied by cool temperatures—making indoor plans more appealing, according to Weather.com.

Meanwhile, clusters of showers and thunderstorms could affect areas stretching from the Northern and Central Plains down to parts of the lower and mid-Mississippi valleys. Locally heavy rain might cause flooding overnight, especially in the Ozarks region covering southern Missouri, northern Arkansas, southeast Kansas, and northeast Oklahoma.

Heavy rainfall poses a flash flood risk, particularly from northern Texas and eastern and central Oklahoma through parts of Missouri, Arkansas, and the lower Ohio and mid-Mississippi valleys.

Farther north, showers across the Northern Plains are expected to be scattered and inconsistent. A few lingering showers are also possible in the interior Northeast.

The West will generally stay dry, with the exception of some isolated thunderstorms in the Colorado Rockies.

On Monday, the slow-moving storm system will shift slightly south and east, bringing rain and thunderstorms to parts of the South. This could lead to a washout for some, while others may only experience brief interruptions. Heavy rainfall could result in localized flash flooding.
