A Siamese-Tabby mix cat from California in USA, Nala was around five months old when she was adopted from an animal shelter by Varisiri Methachittiphan (fondly called Pookie). It was in 2012 when Varisiri made a profile of Nala on social media platform Instagram to share her pictures and videos with friends and family, which soon went viral and caught people's attention. Nala's fans on Instagram grew to 5 million followers- making her achieve the title of the most followed cat on Instagram. Nala was given the title of the most followed cat by the Guinness World Records in May 2020.
She has even beaten four humans to win the title of TikToker of the Year. Pookie says that managing Nala’s Instagram account has become a full-time job for them.

Nala became a social media sensation after Poochie started sharing pictures of Nala on Instagram.
