Manchester United is facing a new challenge off the field as a mice infestation has been reported at their iconic Old Trafford stadium, alongside poor on-field performance and stadium maintenance issues. This follows a recent report by the Daily Mail, which revealed the stadium's food hygiene rating has dropped to two out of five stars.

The club is currently deciding whether to renovate Old Trafford or construct a new stadium. This comes after a 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth on Sunday, leaving the team in 13th place in the Premier League. A leaking roof in the media room during the post-match press conference further compounded the club's woes.

Food Hygiene Rating Affected by Infestation

According to The Daily Mail, the mice problem has resulted in a significant decline in the stadium’s food hygiene standards. The club, however, reassured the public about its proactive efforts in pest control. A Manchester United spokesperson confirmed the implementation of a "robust pest-control system" at Old Trafford. The spokesperson added, "Multiple weekly checks are made in all catering areas and stringent measures are taken to ensure levels of hygiene and cleanliness are high wherever food is stored, prepared and served."

Council Works with United on Improvements

A spokesperson from Trafford Council noted that the club received the two-star rating following a routine inspection. "Our environmental health officers gave a food hygiene rating of two following a routine visit. We are now working closely with Manchester United to ensure it complies with the rating and carries out the necessary improvements."

Other Challenges for the Club

This pest problem adds to the mounting issues at the club. On the field, Manchester United is struggling, having recently fired manager Erik ten Hag after a string of disappointing performances. United suffered a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth at home, leaving them in 13th place in the Premier League standings. During the post-match press conference, a ceiling leak in the media room led to water dripping onto journalists seated in the front row.
