Why Angelina Jolie is selling the Los Feliz mansion
Jolie's decision to sell comes at a significant point in her life. The Oscar-winning actress had previously said she planned to leave Los Angeles once her children became adults. Inside Angelina Jolie’s historic Los Feliz estate
Located at 2000 De Mille Drive, the property sits on approximately 2.1 acres inside Laughlin Park, a private gated enclave in Los Feliz with around 60 homes. At the center of the estate is a Beaux-Arts mansion dating to 1913.The property includes:
- A historic main residence
- A swimming pool and pool house
- A guest house and studio
- A tea house
- A separate garage
- Expansive lawns and mature trees
- Views of the Hollywood Hills
- Views toward the Griffith Observatory

The main house has multiple grand entertaining spaces, including a chef's kitchen, mahogany-paneled dining room, large living room and library. Arched windows add to the home's traditional character. The primary suite includes a marble fireplace, sitting room, spa-style bathroom, dressing room and terrace accessible through French doors.
The home has a remarkable Hollywood history
Perhaps the biggest attraction for a potential buyer is the property's connection to Old Hollywood. Cecil B. DeMille, one of the pioneering filmmakers who helped shape the American film industry, purchased the property in 1916. His family retained it until the late 1980s.DeMille's film legacy includes The Greatest Show on Earth, The Ten Commandments, Samson and Delilah, The King of Kings and Cleopatra. The estate also has a connection to Charlie Chaplin. DeMille bought the neighboring property, formerly associated with Chaplin, in 1920. The two residences were once connected by a glass corridor, although they are now separate properties.
Laughlin Park is a celebrity-favorite enclave
Laughlin Park is a gated community tucked into the hills above Los Feliz. The enclave has attracted numerous Hollywood stars over the years, with past and present residents including Natalie Portman, Kristen Stewart, Brie Larson, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard.During Hollywood's golden era, the neighborhood was also associated with stars such as Carole Lombard and Lily Pons.
One broker cited by the New York Post said celebrities are drawn to the area because it is “quiet and inaccessible,” with no tour buses passing through and convenient access toward Sunset Boulevard.
A potential Madonna move back into Los Angeles real estate?
Madonna's reported interest comes more than three years after she parted ways with her Hidden Hills mansion. If she ultimately decides to buy Jolie's estate, it would mark a notable return to Los Angeles luxury real estate for the pop superstar.
For now, the reported video tour is only an indication of interest, not a confirmed deal. But with a nearly $30 million price tag, a storied Hollywood past and a location surrounded by celebrity neighbors, Jolie's Los Feliz mansion is certainly the kind of property capable of attracting another global superstar.
And if Madonna does become the next owner, the historic De Mille estate could soon add another chapter to its already extraordinary Hollywood story.
