Live TV on PS5 launches in the U.S. with 100+ free channels, including sports, movies and anime

Sony has launched Live TV on PS5 in the U.S., giving PlayStation 5 players access to more than 100 free ad-supported live channels covering sports, movies, TV shows, anime, news and creator-led programming.

The new Live TV on PS5 experience is available starting today through the Media section of the PS5 console. The service is being offered by Sony Pictures Television as a free, ad-supported entertainment option, meaning PS5 owners in the U.S. can watch a growing selection of programming without adding another paid streaming subscription.

The launch brings a mix of familiar entertainment brands and channels to the console, with programming from Amazon MGM Studios, Crunchyroll, FOX, NBCUniversal, the NFL Channel, UFC and others.

How to watch Live TV on PS5

Getting started with Live TV on PS5 does not require a separate device. Players can access the service directly from their console.

To watch, PS5 users need to:

1. Open the Media tab from the PS5 home screen.
2. Select the Live TV on PS5 icon.
3. Choose “Sign In With My PlayStation Account” to connect the PlayStation account and begin watching.

Once signed in, players can browse the available live channels and on-demand entertainment.

Sony says the service launches with a broad range of programming, giving PS5 owners access to entertainment beyond traditional gaming.

The movie lineup includes free channels covering genres such as action, horror and science fiction. Available channels include MovieSphere by Lionsgate, 50 Cent Action, FilmRise Free Movies, Sony One Horror Hits and Cinevault.

TV programming includes popular shows such as Community, The Shield, Hell’s Kitchen, The Walking Dead, Forensic Files, Unsolved Mysteries, Deal or No Deal USA and Fear Factor. Viewers can also find Ice Road Truckers from A+E’s HISTORY.

Anime is another major part of the launch. The service includes titles such as Naruto, Sailor Moon, Hunter x Hunter and Death Note, along with Crunchyroll programming and exclusive channels featuring Black Clover and Box Sets.

Sports and news are also included

Sports fans can access programming from FOX Sports, NASCAR, NBC Sports Now and UFC, with coverage spanning MMA, football, hockey, motorsports, golf, boxing and soccer.

The service also includes news and weather programming. Launch offerings include NBC News Now, Fox Weather and LiveNOW from FOX, providing national, local and international coverage.

Beyond traditional TV networks, Live TV on PS5 also features creator-focused and specialty programming. Players can find content associated with Hot Ones, Spotify's The Ringer, Futcrunch and Idle Mode, alongside comedy, action sports, gaming and esports programming.

Live TV on PS5 is free, but ad-supported

Unlike subscription-based streaming services, Live TV on PS5 is designed as a free ad-supported TV experience. That gives PS5 owners another way to watch entertainment without paying for an additional monthly streaming service.
