President Donald Trump boasted his administration's accomplishments with tariffs and the border as he nears the close of his first 100 days in office during an exclusive interview with Fox Noticias. When Trump was asked about what was most proud of his return to office, the president first pointed to the "success of his administration", addressing the border crisis.

"I think the thing that people now realize is the border is 100%. It's like literally 100%. It's perfect now, and I don't know if you can tell. Perfect. But it's going to get better. And by the way, we want people to come in, but they have to come in legally and everybody agrees to that," Trump told Fox News.

Trump boasts of his border policy

Trump's main campaign promise was securing the borders of the United States to crack down on immigration. Since taking office on 20 January, President Donald Trump has announced a flurry of immigration-related executive orders, paving way for a widespread effort to crack down on undocumented migrants in the US. Since his inauguration, illegal border crossings have been steadily decreasing.

During the Fox Noticias interview, President Trump also shared his pride over the administration's economic successes, including tariff policies.

"We're making tremendous amounts of money taking in billions and billions, hundreds of billions of dollars in tariffs from other countries that for many, many decades just ripped off the United States. And it's time that we not allow that to happen," he told Campos-Duffy.

On Wednesday, Trump once again ripped into former President Joe Biden about the border crisis. "Sleepy Joe Biden, THE WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES, has allowed millions and millions of Criminals, many of them murderers, drug dealers, and people released from prisons and mental institutions from all around the world, to enter our Country through it’s very dangerous and ill conceived Open Border. Sorry, but it’s my job to get these killers and thugs out of here. THAT’S WHAT I GOT ELECTED TO DO. MAGA!," Trump posted on Truth Social.

A recent report from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) shows that the total number of apprehensions at the southern border during March was lower than the number recorded in just the first two days of the month in 2024 under the Biden administration. The report also marks the second straight month that U.S. Border Patrol has seen the lowest average daily apprehensions nationwide in its history.

Trump said there are many accomplishments he is "happy" about, also pointing to Congress' work on the "Big, Beautiful Bill" which would include tax cuts and slashing regulations.

Trump wants to deport 'homegrown criminals'

President Trump also repeated his claim that he is open to sending violent American criminals to El Salvador prisons.

"He's made it a very safe place," Trump said of El Salvador President Nayib Bukele, whom he welcomed to the White House on Monday. "People go, and they feel very secure and safe. He's also built one but also other prisons. Very big ones, and we're using his system because we're getting rid of our criminals from out of the United States that were allowed to come in by Biden."

"We're getting them out, and the president is helping us with that — President Bukele. So, I was very impressed with him, very, very impressed," Trump added.

When asked by Fox's Rachel Campos-Duffy if the prison could be used for "our own violent criminals," Trump replied that it was possible, saying it could be implemented for what he referred to as "homegrown" offenders.

"The ones that grew up and something went wrong, and they hit people over the head with a baseball bat, and push people into subways just before the train gets there, like you see happening sometimes," Trump said. "We are looking into it, and we want to do it. I would love to do that."
