In his second presidency, Donald Trump has appointed Linda McMahon as the education secretary. She was confirmed for the role on March 3 after the Senate voted 51-45 in her favor. A major Republican donor, McMahon also serves as the board chair of the America First Policy Institute, a think tank dedicated to promoting Trump’s policies.

Although she has limited direct experience in education, McMahon previously served on Connecticut's state board of education for a year and was a trustee at Sacred Heart University. From 2017 to 2019, she was the administrator of the Small Business Administration under Trump’s first term.

Business Career and Early Life

McMahon is best known for co-founding Titan Sports, Inc. (later World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc.) with her husband, Vince McMahon. She served as WWE’s president and later CEO from 1980 to 2009.


In politics, McMahon ran as a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate from Connecticut in 2010 and 2012 but lost both races. Despite these setbacks, she remained a key figure in Republican circles.

Born in New Bern, North Carolina, McMahon grew up in a Welsh-American family. She earned a bachelor's degree in French from East Carolina University. Early in her career, she worked as a receptionist at Covington & Burling, where she trained as a paralegal and studied intellectual property law, according to Wikipedia.

McMahon and her husband faced financial hardships in the 1970s, at one point relying on food stamps and even filing for bankruptcy in 1976 after a series of failed business ventures. However, they rebuilt their fortune through the success of WWE, turning it into a global entertainment powerhouse, according to her profile in Wikipedia.
