The Khosla family has officially completed its $9.612 billion purchase of the Seattle Seahawks, taking control of the reigning Super Bowl champions after NFL owners approved the sale eight days ago.

The Seahawks announced the closing of the deal on Thursday, marking the final step in the transfer of ownership.

"We are honored and excited to begin this next chapter," the Khosla family said in a statement. "The Seahawks are known for their championship culture, winning football, and a deep connection to the 12s and the Pacific Northwest.

"We look forward to engaging with the Seattle community and building upon the legacy and traditions that make this franchise so special."

Vinod Khosla, founder of Silicon Valley venture capital firm Khosla Ventures, will serve as chair. His wife, Neeru Khosla, will be the team's controlling owner and president of the Seahawks Charitable Foundation, while their son Neal Khosla will serve as vice chair.

The ownership group also includes 12 co-owners: Mark Stevens, the Aramburuzabala family, Val Blavatnik, Sheryl Sokoloff, Gonzalo Hevia Bailleres, Jesse van der Werf, Samir Kaul, Sunny Gupta, Nader Naini, Penny Pritzker, Carlyle and Dynasty Equity and Sixth Street.

The sale was carried out in accordance with the wishes of the late Paul Allen, who owned the Seahawks before his death. Allen's estate began the process of selling the franchise in February.

Khosla, whose current net worth is estimated at $13.7 billion by Forbes, founded Khosla Ventures, which invests in experimental technologies including biomedicine and robotics. The firm was also the first venture capital firm to invest in OpenAI, according to Forbes.

As part of the transaction, the Khosla family was required to give up its ownership stake in the San Francisco 49ers.

The $9.612 billion deal makes the Seahawks one of the most valuable sports franchises ever sold and brings the team under the control of a family with deep ties to Silicon Valley's technology and venture capital ecosystem.
