Karl Ravech ESPN exit: Veteran broadcaster reportedly leaves network after 30 years, career, net worth and more

Legendary ESPN broadcaster Karl Ravech has reportedly been terminated by the network after more than three decades of association, according to reports. The move comes shortly after ESPN laid off former NFL player and analyst Ryan Clark, as the network continues restructuring following its acquisition of NFL Network.

Neither ESPN nor Ravech has publicly confirmed the reported departure.

According to The Athletic's Andrew Marchand, Ravech, who joined ESPN in 1993, is no longer associated with the network.


During his more than 30-year tenure, Ravech covered several major sporting events, including Major League Baseball games, the College World Series, the Little League World Series and college basketball. He also hosted Baseball Tonight and worked as a SportsCenter anchor.

Ravech's most recent assignment came on Monday night when he provided commentary for ESPN's Phillies vs Dodgers broadcast, in which the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-7.

Reported layoff follows Ryan Clark's ESPN exit

Ravech's reported departure comes a day after ESPN informed former NFL star Ryan Clark about his layoff.

Marchand reported that ESPN had planned to notify Clark about the decision on Tuesday. However, after reports about his exit began circulating, the network informed him during the NFL Live broadcast to ensure he did not learn about the decision through media reports.

Karl Ravech, born in January 1965 in Needham, Massachusetts, began his broadcasting career at WHTM in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and WBNG in Binghamton, New York.

He completed his undergraduate studies at Ithaca College in 1987 and earned a master's degree from Binghamton University in 1990.

Ravech joined ESPN in 1993, where he became the host of Baseball Tonight and contributed to SportsCenter. Over the years, he also hosted ESPN golf events, College Hoops 2Night and College Basketball on ABC. In 2013, he took on play-by-play duties for ESPN's Major League Baseball coverage.

The reported layoffs come as ESPN continues integrating NFL Network after acquiring a 10% equity stake from the NFL.

Marchand reported that while Ravech is among the most prominent on-air personalities expected to be affected, the largest job reductions are likely to take place behind the scenes at NFL Network.

Disney, ESPN's parent company, is also expected to carry out another round of layoffs.

Changes underway in ESPN baseball coverage

Ravech's reported exit would mark another change for ESPN's baseball coverage. The network reduced its MLB schedule this year after stepping away from its previous Major League Baseball package before reaching a revised agreement with the league.

Ravech recently joined the Foul Territory Network as a host and contributor.

ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro is expected to explain the reasoning behind the restructuring decisions in an internal memo, according to reports.
