US election results: Harris skips election night speech as Trump moves closer to reclaim White House
Kamala Harris's campaign announced that she would not address supporters on election night, even as Donald Trump edged closer to securing a second term. Campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond informed a watch party gathering at Howard University, stating, “You won’t hear from the vice president tonight but you will hear from her tomorrow.”

The election watch party at Howard University, attended by students backing Harris, reflected mixed emotions as early projections placed Trump in the lead. By Tuesday night, CNN showed Trump with 230 electoral votes, ahead of Harris, who held 182. With the required threshold at 270 electoral votes to clinch the presidency, the projections prompted some attendees to depart early, disappointed by the numbers.

The watch event, hosted by university students in Washington, D.C., was part of widespread gatherings across the country as voters tuned in to see if Harris, the Democratic vice president, could make history as the first female U.S. president.

Trump, currently at Mar-a-Lago, is anticipated to address his supporters later in the evening, offering remarks on his campaign’s progress and early victories.

Republican Donald Trump has secured North Carolina, winning one of the seven pivotal battleground states in this tightly contested election. With ballots still being counted in six other swing states, Trump’s win in North Carolina marks a critical point in his path to the presidency. Meanwhile, the Republicans have regained control of the Senate, capturing key seats in West Virginia and Ohio.

In the House, focus is shifting to New York and California, where Democrats are striving to regain some of the seats lost to Republicans in recent years. These areas are expected to be decisive in determining the final balance of power in Congress.
