Outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's son Xavier has launched his R&B career, sharing a promotional video on his Instagram handle. Trudeau's son is stepping into the spotlight with the launch of his music career.

Xavier shared a teaser video on Instagram over the weekend from his debut R&B single, 'Til the Night's Done', set to release on February 21, 2025.

Trudeau's son to release R&B song

“We could roll sum, we could light one,” the young Trudeau sings in Til the Nights Done, with those lyrics provided in the accompanying video. There are more vocals, but the words are difficult to discern over the heavily produced track.


In the 16-second, black-and-white video, a hoodie-clad Xavier Trudeau is shown crossing a bridge or walking around darkened areas of Ottawa or inside a recording studio. At the end, he hops in the back seat of an SUV. While the lyrics sparked speculation about a nod to cannabis—legalized in Canada by Justin Trudeau in 2018—the overall response has been overwhelmingly positive. There is no accompanying text on his post other than hashtags, which include rnb, pop, rapper, singer and artist.

How social media reacted to Xavier's music debut launch

His younger sister, Ella Grace Trudeau, commented “this is fire” with two fire emojis. The post is the only one on the profile except for three collections of reels showing Trudeau — who appears to go by Xav — playing basketball, attending concerts and sports, or travelling the world, sometimes on official prime ministerial trips with his father, reports National Post.

Joey Boyer, co-founder and co-owner of the Ottawa-based music label, music has a new take on the R&B genre.

“His ‘vibe’ is dark ambient R&B with a hint of ballads,” he told National Post by email, noting the track is the first of many songs to be released. “Everything you will hear from Xav is 100 per cent original and made specifically to curate to Xav’s ideas.”

Montreal-based musician Dan Boeckner joked on X :"I’m actually fine with this AS LONG AS Trudeau Jr Jr is formally banned from entering politics for the rest of his natural life.”

Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, Xavier’s mother and Justin Trudeau’s ex-wife, expressed her support with a comment on the post: “Great work, guys!” Justin Trudeau, who announced his resignation as Prime Minister earlier this month, has yet to comment on his son’s music debut.

Fans and critics alike were quick to comment on Xavier’s Instagram teaser. Some praised his artistry, with comments like, “Congrats for making a song; hope you blow up!” while others were less enthused, posting remarks such as, “Just put the fries in the bag bro.” “Good stuff Xav,” another fan posted.
