Actor Jonathan Joss — best known for his voice work on the iconic animated TV comedy “King of Hill” was shot dead by a neighbor in Texas, US media reported. According to Variety, Jonathan Joss, who voiced John Redcorn, died in a shooting on Saturday, San Antonio police confirmed to Variety. He was 59. Joss got into a argument with the neighbor at his home in San Antonio Sunday night when the neighbor pulled out a gun and shot him several times, according to police. The unnamed gunman then fled the scene in a vehicle but was arrested by police just a block from the residence.

Jonathan Joss shot dead in Texas

On Sunday night around 7:00 p.m., San Antonio officers responded to reports of an active shooting at a residence. Upon arrival, they found Joss near the roadway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers provided life-saving efforts until paramedics arrived, but unfortunately, Joss was declared dead at the scene.

The suspect fled in a vehicle but was apprehended by officers just a block away and has been charged with murder. The investigation remains ongoing. TMZ, which first reported the incident, stated that the shooting resulted from a dispute between Joss and a neighbor.

Joss died at the scene despite paramedics’ best efforts to save him, TMZ reported. In addition to his character on “King of the Hill,” Joss, who has Native American ancestry, also had a recurring role on “Parks and Recreation” as Chief Hatote.

Jonathan Joss' work

Joss voiced the character John Redcorn from Season 2 through Season 13 of King of the Hill and has already recorded lines for the upcoming revival of the beloved animated series. He took over the role after the original actor, Victor Aaron, tragically passed away in a car accident in 1996. Created by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, King of the Hill premiered on Fox in 1997 and aired over 250 episodes before concluding in 2009.

More than a decade later, the show is set to return with a revival premiering on Hulu on August 4, as announced last week. In addition to his work on King of the Hill, Joss had a recurring role as Chief Ken Hotate on Parks and Recreation and has appeared in various films and TV shows including Tulsa King, Ray Donovan, True Grit, and The Magnificent Seven.
