An anonymous Meta employee has triggered a heated online debate after revealing that fears of layoffs have forced her to put family planning on hold.

Posting anonymously on Blind, a forum for verified employees, she admitted that growing uncertainty over her future at the tech giant has made motherhood feel like too much of a risk.

“I gave up on having kids while I’m at Meta,” she wrote, saying a recent conversation with her husband made her realise just how deeply job insecurity had shaped their lives.

‘Zero guarantee I’ll still be employed’

The employee said repeated layoffs, shifting priorities and unpredictable compensation have left her with little confidence about what lies ahead.

“There is absolutely zero guarantee I’ll still be employed here by next year, let alone by the time I’d actually return from maternity leave,” she wrote.

According to her, the constant uncertainty has made planning for a baby feel unrealistic, despite wanting to start a family.

‘My biological clock is ticking fast’

What makes the situation even more painful, she said, is that waiting may not be an option forever.

“The sad part is my biological clock is ticking and it’s ticking fast,” she wrote, wondering whether fear of losing her job could end up costing her the chance to become a parent.

Her emotional post struck a nerve with many professionals who say workplace instability is beginning to shape life decisions that go far beyond careers.

Internet divided over Meta worker’s dilemma

After screenshots of the post spread on X, users flooded social media with reactions.

Some argued that job insecurity has been discouraging people from having children for years.

“This has been happening for a long time. It’s why birth rates are low,” one user wrote.

Others said losing a lucrative tech job can be financially devastating, especially when finding an equivalent role is far from guaranteed.

Several commenters, however, urged the employee not to let an employer dictate such a personal decision.

“You are just a number on the excel sheet of your organisation,” one person wrote, pointing out that employees often have little control over corporate restructuring.

More than just a job
The viral post has reignited a broader conversation about how repeated layoffs in the tech industry are affecting workers' confidence—even at companies known for generous salaries and benefits.

For the Meta employee, the issue isn't simply about employment. It's about whether fear of losing a job could end up changing one of life's biggest decisions—one that may not be possible to reverse later.
