Hunter Biden pardon: How Hallie Biden is connected to the gun saga

US President Joe Biden's pardon for his son, Hunter Biden, has put the spotlight on Hallie Biden in the gun case. The pardon ensures that Hunter Biden, who had been convicted on charges related to gun crimes and tax violations, will not face sentencing for these offences and removes the possibility of prison time.

The gun case
Hallie Biden first discovered a gun in Hunter Biden's truck in October 2018. Alarmed and fearing for the safety of her children and Hunter, she quickly disposed of the weapon. Hallie placed the gun and ammunition in a leather pouch, drove to a grocery store, and discarded them in a trash can. The police later recovered the weapon, tracing it back to Hunter Biden. Investigations revealed Hunter had illegally purchased the gun, concealing his drug addiction on the required forms.

Hallie Biden, previously married to Beau Biden from 2002 until his death from brain cancer in 2015, began dating Hunter in 2016. Their relationship, rooted in shared grief, lasted until 2018. Hallie later testified against Hunter as part of an immunity deal, confirming his frequent possession of crack cocaine and revealing that he introduced her to drugs, leading to her addiction. She was sent to rehab four times, with the Biden family covering the costs.


Hallie and Hunter’s relationship strained Hunter’s marriage to Kathleen Buhle, who accused him of infidelity and lavish spending on Hallie. In 2018, Hunter even hired Hallie at his consultancy, Rosemont Seneca. Although the Biden family initially supported their relationship, it ended in 2019, shortly after Joe Biden announced his presidential campaign.

In June 2024, Hallie married Cincinnati-based financial broker John Hopkins Anning, marking a new chapter in her life.
