As gunfire erupted inside a home on Brook Ivy Court, three terrified children — aged 7, 10 and 12 — rushed into a closet to hide. In a moment of nerve-wracking bravery, the eldest child dialled 911, bringing police racing to the scene within minutes. The children survived unharmed and are now safe with relatives.
Police called the incident “deeply tragic,” saying four people were killed in one horrifying burst of violence — all while children were inside the house.
Cops have named 51-year-old Vijay Kumar of Atlanta as the alleged shooter. He now faces a mountain of charges, including four counts of murder, multiple counts of aggravated assault, and cruelty to children.
Among the victims were Kumar’s wife Meenu Dogra (43) and three relatives — Gourav Kumar (33), Nidhi Chander (37), and Harish Chander (38) — all residents of Lawrenceville.
Investigators say the argument reportedly started at the couple’s Atlanta home before Kumar, Dogra and their 12-year-old child drove to the Lawrenceville residence, where the deadly confrontation unfolded. What sparked the dispute — and why it spiralled into massacre — remains a mystery.
India’s Consulate in Atlanta expressed shock and sorrow, confirming that an Indian national was among those killed and assuring that help is being provided to the grieving family.
A night of unspeakable violence — and one child’s quick thinking that stopped the death toll from climbing even higher.
