GTA 6 to be delayed again by up to six months? Here's what we know
Grand Theft Auto VI's release date might shift further into the future. A former Rockstar developer believes a six-month delay is possible. This potential postponement stems from Rockstar's commitment to product polish. The game is currently slate...

"They'll push it six more months if they have to," York was quoted as saying by Insider Saga.
York, however, stressed that he no longer works at Rockstar Games and has no insider knowledge about the game's current development. His comments are based on his past experience at the studio, where major releases were delayed whenever developers felt more time was needed to deliver a polished product.
If such a delay were to happen, GTA 6 could launch around May 2027. However, York emphasized that he was not predicting another delay, only suggesting it remains a possibility based on Rockstar's development philosophy.
GTA 6 has already been delayed twice
GTA 6 was originally expected to launch in fall 2025 before Rockstar postponed it to May 2026. Earlier this year, the studio delayed the game again to November 19, 2026, saying it needed additional time to meet fans' expectations.Rockstar earlier apologized to players, saying: "We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait."
The game has reportedly been in development since 2018, making it one of the longest development cycles in the franchise.
What to expect from GTA 6
GTA 6 returns players to Vice City, Rockstar's fictional take on Miami, and introduces two playable protagonists—Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Lucia will become the first female lead character in the Grand Theft Auto series. The game's predecessor, Grand Theft Auto V, released in 2013, has sold more than 220 million copies and generated an estimated $8.6 billion in revenue. That success gives publisher Take-Two Interactive strong incentive to ensure GTA 6 launches in the best possible state, even if it means extending development further.
While Rockstar has also faced internal challenges, including reports of layoffs involving UK-based employees earlier this year, the company continues to post strong financial results, driven largely by the ongoing popularity of GTA Online.
For now, November 19, 2026 remains GTA 6's official release date, and Rockstar has not indicated that another delay is under consideration. Mike York's comments reflect his personal assessment of Rockstar's development approach rather than any confirmed plans.
