'Giorgia Meloni is a beautiful young woman': Video of Trump praising Italian PM at Gaza summit goes viral

At a Gaza peace summit in Egypt on Monday, US President Donald Trump made headlines for his remarks about Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the only female leader on stage. While addressing the audience, Trump paused his speech to compliment Meloni, saying, “She’s beautiful.”

The 79-year-old US president, who has been married three times, acknowledged that such comments might spark accusations of sexism. “I’m not allowed to say it because usually it’s the end of your political career if you say it — she’s a beautiful young woman,” Trump remarked during his address on Middle East peace efforts.

He continued, “If you use the word ‘beautiful’ in the United States about a woman, that’s the end of your political career, but I’ll take my chances.” Turning toward Meloni, 48, Trump added, “You don’t mind being called beautiful, right? Because you are.”



Meloni’s immediate response wasn’t visible to cameras, as Trump’s back was turned to her. However, he went on to praise her leadership, calling her “incredible” and “a very successful politician.” “They really respect her in Italy,” he said, noting their shared conservative stance on immigration and cultural values.

Meloni stood as the only woman among nearly 30 global leaders gathered for the summit, where they signed a declaration supporting renewed peace efforts for Gaza.


Trump’s comments quickly reignited discussions about his history of sexist remarks. In recent months, he has faced intensified scrutiny over past behavior toward women. In September, a U.S. appeals court upheld a jury verdict ordering Trump to pay $83.3 million in damages to author E. Jean Carroll, whom he was found to have defamed after she accused him of sexual assault.
