After leaving the military, Andrew's personal life still hit the headlines. Tabloids linked him to a series of women, from swimwear models to entrepreneurs.
Once hailed as Queen Elizabeth II’s “favourite son” and admired for his charm and military service, Prince Andrew now stands as one of the most disgraced figures in royal history — the man accused of sexually abusing a teenage girl and stripped of his title by his own brother.

King Charles III officially removed Andrew’s “Prince” status on Thursday, cutting yet another thread tying the monarchy to the scandal-ridden royal and his links to the late U.S. sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The Scandal That Shook the Palace

Virginia Giuffre accused Andrew of sexually abusing her as a teenager at Epstein’s lavish homes. Though he denied ever meeting her, Andrew settled a U.S. lawsuit in February 2022 with an undisclosed sum — a move seen by many as a silent admission of guilt.

His reputation began to unravel in 2019 after a disastrous BBC interview meant to clear his name. Instead, it cemented his downfall. The Duke appeared tone-deaf, expressing no sympathy for Epstein’s victims and offering bizarre defences — including claiming he couldn’t sweat and was at a Pizza Express in Woking the night of the alleged incident.

Even as public opinion turned sharply against him, Andrew found refuge in his mother’s affection. Queen Elizabeth II allowed him to accompany her to Prince Philip’s memorial in 2022 — a final act of maternal protection before her death later that year. Since then, Andrew has been all but erased from royal duties, appearing only at family ceremonies such as the Queen’s funeral and King Charles’s coronation.

A Once-Golden Prince
Before the scandals, Andrew’s life had the sheen of royal glamour. A naval veteran with 22 years of service, he was once appointed Britain’s Special Representative for Trade and Investment in 2001 — a role he lost a decade later due to his association with Epstein.

His 1986 marriage to Sarah Ferguson, the spirited “Fergie,” made tabloid gold. The couple’s split in 1992, during the Queen’s infamous “annus horribilis,” left him heartbroken, though they maintained an unusually close post-divorce friendship, even sharing a home.

From ‘Air Miles Andy’ to Royal Liability
After leaving the Navy, Andrew’s jet-set lifestyle — complete with yachts, models, and sun-drenched escapades — earned him the nickname “Air Miles Andy.” But his friendship with Epstein, who was convicted of child sex offences in 2008, proved fatal to his image.

By 2011, Andrew had resigned as trade envoy. Four years later, Giuffre’s allegations dragged him deeper into disgrace. In a desperate attempt to explain himself, he gave the infamous BBC interview — now remembered as one of the most catastrophic moments in royal PR history.

The End of a Royal Era
Behind palace walls, insiders described Andrew as entitled and volatile — even known to throw tantrums if the teddy bears on his bed were moved.

In the end, neither his denials nor his royal blood could shield him. “I unequivocally regret my ill-judged association with Jeffrey Epstein,” he said in a later statement — words far too late to save his tarnished legacy.

Prince Andrew’s story now reads like a royal tragedy — the once-dashing war hero who fell from grace, leaving behind a title, a reputation, and a shadow that still looms over the British monarchy.
