Fortnite servers down for v42.00 update: When will Chapter 7 Season 4 go live?

Fortnite servers are currently down as Epic Games rolls out the v42.00 update and launches Chapter 7 Season 4, titled “Override.” The scheduled maintenance began at 2 a.m. ET on August 20, 2026, and was initially expected to last about five hours.

Epic Games has not yet confirmed an exact time for the servers to return online. The company’s public status page continues to list the Fortnite v42.00 maintenance as ongoing.

However, the maintenance could be extended if Epic needs additional time to complete the update.


Players cannot resolve the issue by restarting Fortnite, their console, PC, router or Epic Games Launcher. Access will be restored once Epic completes the update and brings Fortnite’s services back online.

All about v42.00 update

The v42.00 update introduces Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, “Override,” with major map changes, new weapons, gameplay mechanics and several crossover additions.

New locations include Geno’s HQ, Green Hill Zone, Temple, the Spire and Pac-Man Island. The update also adds crossover-themed content from Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man and Tetris.

Among the new weapons and items are the Sonic Spin Dash Mythic, Mega Man Mythic, Tetriminos Junk Rift, 8-Bit Shotgun, HJSH-18 Masamune Assault Rifle and TKI-20 Shingen SMG.

The season also introduces new mechanics, including cartridges, Override Consoles, Loot Hacks and Cheat Codes, giving players new ways to alter matches and obtain items.

The Override Battle Pass features Sonic, Geno, a customizable Tetris skin, a Warrior with Sword and Shield, a Kart Racer, a Soldier, an original Fighter and a mystery skin. The pass also includes a Tails Sidekick.

Until Epic confirms that maintenance is complete, players will have to wait for the servers to come back online. Epic’s official status page remains the best source for confirmation that Fortnite services have been restored.
