Law enforcement agencies, including the Fayetteville Police Department, responded swiftly and established a perimeter around Mullins Library, which sits at the center of campus near the Student Union. University spokesperson John Thomas confirmed the heightened security measures.
The alert sent to the community read: “RazALERT Emergency Notification: Avoid the area of Mullins Library due to an active shooter reported. Avoid. Deny. Defend.”
U.S. Representative Steve Womack, who represents Arkansas’ 3rd District, said he was monitoring the situation closely. “My team and I are closely monitoring reports of an active shooter near Mullins Library on the University of Arkansas Fayetteville campus,” he posted. “If you're in the vicinity, please follow all safety alerts.”
A large number of officers remain on campus as authorities investigate the reports. The situation is ongoing and updates are expected.
