Emergency alert issued at University of Arkansas for active shooter. Here's what we know so far

The University of Arkansas issued an emergency alert on Monday afternoon following reports of an active shooter near Mullins Library on the Fayetteville campus. The alert, sent around 12:30 p.m. through the university’s RazALERT emergency notification system, urged students and staff to avoid the area. The public address system on campus was also activated to reinforce the warning.

Law enforcement agencies, including the Fayetteville Police Department, responded swiftly and established a perimeter around Mullins Library, which sits at the center of campus near the Student Union. University spokesperson John Thomas confirmed the heightened security measures.

The alert sent to the community read: “RazALERT Emergency Notification: Avoid the area of Mullins Library due to an active shooter reported. Avoid. Deny. Defend.”


U.S. Representative Steve Womack, who represents Arkansas’ 3rd District, said he was monitoring the situation closely. “My team and I are closely monitoring reports of an active shooter near Mullins Library on the University of Arkansas Fayetteville campus,” he posted. “If you're in the vicinity, please follow all safety alerts.”

A large number of officers remain on campus as authorities investigate the reports. The situation is ongoing and updates are expected.
