The comments of Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley were originally made in August last year, following a wave of riots in the United Kingdom. Mark Rowley had issued a stern warning through Sky News, stating, "We will throw the full force of the law at people. And whether you’re in this country committing crimes on the streets or committing crimes from further afield online, we will come after you." (sic)
When UK riots broke out, Elon Musk had doubled down and picked on the prime minister Keir Starmer while appearing to voice support for the protesting far-right groups.

The unrest in UK was fuelled by false online rumours claiming that an asylum seeker was behind a mass stabbing at a Taylor Swift-themed dance event, which left three girls dead and several others injured.When a Sky News reporter pressed Commissioner Rowley for clarification on his warning, pointing out that high-profile figures were "whipping up hatred," specifically mentioning "the likes of Elon Musk."

The reporter also questioned how authorities planned to address individuals who incite such behavior from afar. To which Commissioner Rowley responded firmly, stating: "Being a keyboard warrior does not make you safe from the law."
The situation gained additional attention when Elon Musk criticised Prime Minister Keir Starmer's handling of the unrest, suggesting Britain was approaching "civil war." The UK government condemned the post.
