US President Donald Trump has ruled out the deportation of Prince Harry, despite ongoing litigation concerning the Duke of Sussex’s immigration status. Speaking to The New York Post, Trump said, "I don’t want to do that. I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible."

Legal Challenges Over Harry’s US Visa

Prince Harry’s US visa status has been questioned following a lawsuit by the Heritage Foundation against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The conservative think tank is pushing for the release of Harry’s immigration records, citing his autobiography Spare, where he admitted to using cocaine, cannabis, and psychedelics. Under US immigration laws, past drug use can impact visa eligibility, raising concerns over whether Harry disclosed this information truthfully.

Nile Gardiner of the Heritage Foundation told The London Daily Telegraph, "Anyone who applies to the United States has to be truthful on their application, and it is not clear that is the case with Prince Harry."

Trump Praises Prince William Amidst Royal Rift

While discussing Harry’s situation, Trump spoke positively about Prince William, whom he met privately in Paris during the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral in December 2024. "I think William is a great young man," he told The New York Post.

This meeting stood in contrast to Trump’s contentious relationship with Harry and Meghan, who have been vocal critics of him. Meghan Markle previously referred to Trump as "divisive" and "misogynistic" in public statements. Trump, in response, has repeatedly criticised Harry, stating, "I think poor Harry is being led around by the nose."

Claims of Preferential Treatment

The Heritage Foundation has also suggested that Harry may have received special treatment from the Biden administration after he and Meghan moved to California in 2020 following their highly publicised departure from the British royal family, commonly known as "Megxit." The lawsuit continues as the think tank seeks clarity on whether Harry’s visa process was handled according to standard US regulations.

Despite Trump ruling out deportation, the legal battle over Harry’s visa status remains unresolved. The Heritage Foundation is pressing for transparency from the DHS, and the case continues to garner public attention. As legal experts weigh in on the potential consequences, Prince Harry's US residency remains a subject of debate.
