In the viral video, Brigitte Macron appears to push President Emmanuel Macron just as he prepares to step off the presidential plane on Sunday evening.
In the footage, Brigitte, 72, is seen placing both hands on her husband’s face before firmly shoving him, just moments after the aircraft door opened. According to a professional lip reader cited by The Express, the interaction included a four-word jab that caught the internet's attention.
“Dégage, espèce de loser,” Brigitte reoprtedly said which translates to: “Stay away, you loser.”
The lip reader decoded the tense sequence: As the aircraft door opens, Macron turns toward his wife.
Brigitte responds by pushing him in the face.
Macron, realizing the cameras are rolling, quickly smiles and waves, trying to compose himself.
He says “Hi” and then motions for Brigitte to follow with, “Let’s go.”
As they prepare to descend the stairs, Macron offers his arm. Brigitte ignores it and clutches the railing instead.
The lip reader also claims that as Macron attempted to defuse the situation by saying, “Essayons, s’il te plaît” ("Let’s try, please"), Brigitte simply replied, “Non.”
Macron’s final remark, allegedly muttered under his breath, was “Je vois” (“I see”).
???? Elysee Palace Responds
Initially, the French president’s office denied the authenticity of the footage. But amid mounting media scrutiny, they later confirmed it was genuine.
“We are squabbling and, rather, joking with my wife,” Macron told reporters on Monday.
“People are saying all sorts of nonsense. Everyone needs to calm down. It’s being turned into some sort of geo-planetary catastrophe.”
A Complex History
The Macrons have been married since 2007, but their relationship has long drawn public interest due to its unusual origins: the couple met in 1993 when Brigitte was a 39-year-old teacher and Emmanuel was her 15-year-old student — and a classmate of her daughter.
