US President Donald Trump on Friday withdrew an invitation to Canada to join the 'Board of Peace', a Gaza peace-making initiative, which he unveiled at the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos.

"Please let this letter serve to represent that the ‌Board ‍of Peace is ‍withdrawing its invitation to you ‌regarding Canada’s joining, what will be, the most prestigious Board of Leaders ever ‍assembled, at any time," ‍Trump wrote in a Truth Social post directed at Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Trump signed the 'Board of Peace' charter on Thursday along with his key allies, including Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Bulgaria, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Morocco, Mongolia, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

The US president, who will chair the board, invited dozens of other world leaders to join, saying he wants the 'Board of Peace' to address challenges beyond the stuttering Gaza ceasefire, stirring misgivings that it could undermine the UN's role as the main platform for global diplomacy and conflict resolution.

Last week, Carney visited China to meet President Xi Jinping to make a deal that cut levies on Chinese electric cars in return for lower tariffs on certain agricultural and food products, including Canadian canola, lobsters and crab. While there, he said ties between Ottawa and Washington were "much more multifaceted" than with Beijing, but added "the way our relationship has progressed in recent months with China, it is more predictable."
