Cristiano Ronaldo’s $7.4 million Cheshire estate cut to $6.7 million after struggling to find a buyer: What the 23-acre mansion includes and why the football star left
Would you believe if I told you football star Cristiano Ronaldo’s former Cheshire home struggled to find the right buyer. Yes, you read that right. Cristiano Ronaldo’s luxury property sprawling 23-acre estate in Alderley Edge was originally listed for about $7.4 million (£5.5 million) in 2023. But its asking price was later reduced to around $6.7 million (£5 million).

The estate is much bigger than a seven-bedroom mansion and comes with an indoor heated swimming pool, professional gym, cinema, sauna, jacuzzi, tennis court, padel court and a separate guest barn. But the catch is that Ronaldo himself did not live there for very long after returning to Manchester United in 2021.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s former Cheshire estate is more like a private resort

Located in Alderley Edge, one of Cheshire’s best-known luxury property areas, Cristiano Ronaldo’s former estate occupies an enormous 23 acres. The main residence has seven bedrooms and six bathrooms, with the property designed around luxury, family living, fitness and entertainment.

Some of its biggest features include:

  • Seven-bedroom main mansion
  • Six bathrooms
  • Indoor heated swimming pool
  • Professional gym
  • Sauna and jacuzzi
  • Private cinema room
  • Wine cellar
  • Full-sized tennis court
  • Padel court
  • Separate two-bedroom guest barn
  • Large private grounds
The main bedroom has private dressing areas and walk-in wardrobe space, while the other bedrooms have en-suite facilities. When the property was listed, estate agency Jackson-Stops described it as a “masterpiece of modern design set in 23 acres, an ultra stylish main residence with superb leisure suite, two bedroom guest barn and padel court.”

Why Ronaldo moved out of the $7.4 million mansion

Ronaldo returned to Manchester United in 2021 and initially moved his family into the Cheshire estate. However, the family later relocated to another property in the area. Reports hinted that Ronaldo moved out of the $7.4 million mansion due to the surroundings of the estate and early morning sheep noises. But there has been no confirmation on this yet.

A public footpath reportedly ran close to the property, something that could be particularly inconvenient for one of the world's most recognizable footballers. Ronaldo and his family subsequently moved into another Cheshire home previously owned by former Manchester United striker Andrew Cole. That property offered stronger security features, including electric gates and CCTV.

Why did Ronaldo put the Cheshire estate up for sale?

Ronaldo’s second spell at Manchester United ended in November 2022 after the club and player agreed to terminate his contract. Soon afterwards, he began a new chapter in Saudi Arabia by joining Al-Nassr. That move made the huge Cheshire estate considerably less practical.

The property had already stopped being the family’s main home, and Ronaldo was now spending most of his time outside England. Keeping a 23-acre luxury estate in Cheshire therefore made less sense.

Jackson-Stops listed the property in February 2023 for £5.5 million, equivalent to about $7.4 million at the conversion used for the listing. But the estate remained on the market for more than 18 months without finding a buyer. Its asking price was eventually cut by £500,000, taking it from £5.5 million to £5 million, or around $6.7 million.

Moreover, owning 23 acres with an indoor swimming pool, gym, tennis court, padel court and multiple additional buildings means taking on substantial maintenance and running costs.

Interestingly, this was not Ronaldo’s first difficult property sale in Alderley Edge. During his first Manchester United spell, he owned another five-bedroom luxury house in the area. He reportedly bought that property in 2008 for £3.895 million. When it was eventually sold in 2019, the reported price was £3.25 million.
