Clay Fire spreads to 40 acres in Riverside County, evacuations ordered

A wildfire broke out in Riverside County on Tuesday night, prompting evacuation warnings for nearby residents. The Clay Fire, which started at approximately 5 p.m. near the intersection of Van Buren Boulevard and Clay Street in Jurupa Valley, initially spread across two acres of vegetation. By the evening, it had grown to nearly 40 acres, according to CalFire.

Fire spreads, structures at risk

The fire began in a heavy brush area and moved slowly, with flames visible from Riverside. Although the fire did not initially threaten structures, it gradually moved westward, putting several homes in danger. Crews on-site requested additional resources, including 10 fire engines, dozers, and night-flying helicopters for water drops.

Evacuation warning issued

At 7:30 p.m., an evacuation warning was issued for several zones in the affected area. Officials urged those requiring extra time to evacuate, including residents with pets or livestock, to leave immediately. The warning covered areas south of Limonite Avenue, east of Beach Street, and west of Van Buren Boulevard.

Care centers set up for evacuees

A care and reception center for evacuees was established at Mira Loma Middle School in Riverside. Animal services were also available in Jurupa Valley. Aerial footage showed helicopters working to control hotspots, while crews focused on preventing flames from reaching nearby homes.
