Charlie Kirk, a prominent right-wing activist and close ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, was shot dead during an event at Utah Valley University. Now, a viral video is fueling conspiracy theories online, showing a man standing behind Kirk making unusual hand gestures moments before the fatal shooting.

“Who is the person behind Charlie Kirk, and why is he making what appears to be a ‘signal’ right before Charlie is shot? This is NOT a normal gesture,” wrote one user on X, who first shared the clip.

The video shows one individual tipping his hat, followed by another man in a black shirt crossing one arm and making a finger sign. Some online users speculated he could have been part of Kirk’s security team, while others saw it as a suspicious act.


“I guarantee he wouldn’t have been standing that close if he knew Kirk was going to be shot,” one X user wrote. Another added, “Would you not agree the gesture is suspicious on its own?”


Kirk, who co-founded Turning Point USA in 2012 at just 18, was speaking under a tent in the campus courtyard around noon, wearing a white “Freedom” T-shirt, when gunfire erupted. He collapsed as blood was seen gushing from his neck, according to videos filmed from the scene.

He was quickly taken away on a stretcher by his security detail. Authorities later said the shooter is believed to have fired from a rooftop overlooking the event, calling it a “targeted attack.”

Two men were briefly detained but later released. One man, George Zinn, was charged with obstruction but was not tied to the shooting. The investigation and manhunt remain ongoing.

Meanwhile, President Trump mourned Kirk on Truth Social, calling him “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk,” and vowed a nationwide crackdown on political violence, blaming “radical left rhetoric” for the killing. Former Vice President Kamala Harris and several other Democrats also condemned the attack, urging Americans to reject political violence.
