Marvel Studios has officially announced the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, a long-awaited follow-up to Avengers: Endgame. The announcement, made via livestream and social media, arrives just before filming begins in London next month.

Familiar faces return, including Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man). Letitia Wright (Shuri), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres), and Winston Duke (M’Baku) are also set to reprise their roles.

X-Men and Fantastic Four Join the Battle

In a major expansion of the MCU, X-Men stars Patrick Stewart and Kelsey Grammer are joining the ensemble. Stewart returns as Professor Charles Xavier, a role he first played in X-Men (2000). Grammer, known for portraying Beast in X-Men: The Last Stand, most recently appeared in The Marvels (2023).

Adding to the excitement, Fantastic Four actors Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing), and Joseph Quinn (The Human Torch) will be making their first Avengers appearance. Their upcoming debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps is scheduled for release on 25 July 2025.

Meanwhile, Thunderbolts star Lewis Pullman (Bob Reynolds/Sentry) is confirmed to appear, alongside David Harbour (Red Guardian) and Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost).

A Surprise Return for Namor

One of the most unexpected announcements was the inclusion of Tenoch Huerta Mejía, who reprises his role as Namor. Huerta’s return had been uncertain following allegations of misconduct in 2023, which he denied as “false and completely unsubstantiated.” He later withdrew from a Netflix project but appeared at Marvel’s Echo premiere, suggesting an ongoing partnership with the studio.

Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom

Perhaps the biggest revelation is Robert Downey Jr.’s return—but not as Tony Stark. At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Marvel revealed that Downey would play the infamous villain Doctor Doom.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige was behind the pitch, convincing Downey to take on the role. Downey, in turn, persuaded Joe and Anthony Russo to return as directors. The duo, known for helming Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame, had moved on to streaming projects before being drawn back into the MCU by longtime collaborator Stephen McFeely’s script.

The Future of the MCU

Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame marked the end of an era. Now, Avengers: Doomsday aims to set the stage for the next chapter. With an all-star cast, returning directors, and a powerful new villain, anticipation is already sky-high.

The film lands in cinemas on 1 May 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on 7 May 2027.
