Avengers assemble to endorse Kamala Harris: Robert Downey Jr, Mark Ruffalo and other Marvel stars reunite ahead of US elections

The Avengers have reassembled ahead of US presidential elections. The cast of Marvel’s Avengers movies have come out in support of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris less than a week before the US election.

Marvel stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo “assembled” on a video call on Friday to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for the top post that pits her against former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Avengers assemble to endorse Kamala Harris

In a video posted first on Vanity Fair on Thursday evening, the Avengers star cast playfully riffed on their respective characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe while encouraging viewers to vote for Harris. The 90-second video opens with the actors taking an incoming video call from Johansson.


On screen, they brainstorm ideas for a catchphrase for Harris, landing on the dubious “Down with Democracy”, which they spin into a brief Marvel-style Harris/Walz campaign video with dramatic music and comic-style graphics, reported The Guardian. The final frame of the video encourages viewers to vote on November 5.

Marvel stars support Kamala Harris

Mark Ruffalo, a vocal Democrat supporter who is best known for his role as the Hulk, shared the video on X, formerly Twitter and wrote: “Don’t sit this one out. It’s the one where we will lose big: Project 2025, women’s reproductive rights, climate change, LGBTQIA+ rights, public education, student debt relief, Affordable Care Act, Social Security, and as of today, life saving vaccines. This shit is real and it’s going to come for you.”

On Friday, Downey Jr., who played Iron Man in the blockbuster franchise, also shared a video on Instagram that featured him alongside Chris Evans (Captain America), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Paul Bettany (Vision), Danai Gurira (Okoye), and Don Cheadle (War Machine) brainstorming a campaign slogan to support Harris. Downey shared the video on Instagram with the caption, “Let’s #AssembleForDemocracy !!!” and tagged both Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz.


“It is our pleasure to come together and to get the vote out this election,” Danai Gurira said in the video, proposing the rallying cry ‘Kamala Forever’ in a nod to Black Panther war cry Wakanda Forever.

On Friday, Down with Democracy was one of the top trends on social media platform X with many netizens sharing the video of Avengers star cast coming together to endorse Kamala Harris.


Kamala Harris has been a favourite among Hollywood celebs, who have supported her campaign through donations, public appearances and social media endorsements. The 'Avengers' cast now joins the latest list of celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Taylor Swift, Leonardo DiCaprio, Beyonce, Sarah Jessica Parker, Eminem, Andy Cohen, Madonna, Ben Stiller, Willie Nelson, Cher, Marc Anthony, Mariska Hargitay, Lizzo, Anne Hathaway, Neil Young, Dave Bautista, Jennifer Lawrence, Billie Eilish and more who have publically endorced Harris in the months leading up to the elections.
