If you owned an eligible Apple device and experienced unexpected Siri activations, you might be entitled to compensation — up to $100
Apple has agreed to pay $95 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging that its Siri voice assistant recorded users' private conversations without consent. If you owned an eligible Apple device and experienced unexpected Siri activations, you might be entitled to compensation — up to $100, depending on the number of devices you used.

Why Is Apple Paying?

The lawsuit stems from claims that Siri sometimes activated without user input, inadvertently recording sensitive conversations. According to the complaint, this data was allegedly used by Apple and its partners for targeted advertising — a claim Apple denies. The company has said it "never used Siri data to build marketing profiles, never sold it, and never made it available for advertising."

Apple settled the case in January but continues to deny any wrongdoing. The lawsuit gained traction after 2019 reports from The Guardian, Bloomberg, and Belgian news outlet VRT revealed that voice assistants, including Siri, had captured private conversations.

Who Is Eligible?

You may be eligible for compensation if you:

Owned a Siri-enabled Apple device in the U.S. between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024, including:

How to File a Claim

Apple has started notifying eligible users via email or postcard (subject line: "Lopez Voice Assistant Class Action Settlement") sent to their Apple ID email address.

The notice includes claim codes and a link to the official settlement website.

Even if you haven’t received a notification, you can still file a claim by visiting the website and providing proof of device ownership.

You can submit claims for up to five devices, with each device eligible for an estimated payout of around $20, though the exact amount depends on how many people file.

Deadline to submit a claim: July 2, 2025
Final approval hearing: August 1, 2025
Payouts expected after final court approval

What Happens Next?

After the August 1 hearing, if the settlement is approved, payments will begin to go out. While some claimants could receive up to $100, most users are expected to get about $20 per qualifying device, given the large number of eligible participants.

Apple says it has made changes to improve Siri’s privacy and now processes more voice commands locally to prevent accidental recordings.
