Amazon has raised prices on several of its consumer electronics products, including Echo smart speakers, Kindle e-readers, Fire TV devices and eero networking equipment, as rising memory and storage costs push up hardware expenses.

The price increases affect multiple products across Amazon’s device portfolio. The base Echo Dot, for instance, now costs $79.99, up from $49.99, while the 16GB Kindle has risen to $149.99 from $109.99, according to a review by Fortune.

Amazon confirmed the increases, saying the consumer electronics industry is “facing significant increases in memory and storage component costs.” The company said it had absorbed those increases for as long as possible before changing prices.

“After absorbing these increases for as long as we could, we recently adjusted pricing across our product lines,” an Amazon spokeswoman said in a statement.

Amazon Echo, Kindle prices rise

The Echo Dot saw one of the largest increases, with its price moving from $49.99 to $79.99. The Echo Show 11 is now priced at $249.99, compared with $219.99 earlier.

Kindle prices have also moved higher. The 16GB Kindle now costs $149.99, up from $109.99, while the 16GB Kindle Paperwhite has risen to $199.99 from $159.99.

Amazon has also increased prices for its Fire TV devices.

The Fire TV Stick HD now costs $39.99, compared with $34.99 previously. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max has risen from $59.99 to $84.99.

In Amazon's eero networking range, the eero 7 now costs $399.99, up from $349.99. The eero Pro 7 has increased to $799.99 from $699.99.

Why Amazon is raising device prices

The increases come as a shortage of memory chips puts pressure on electronics companies. Demand for memory has surged alongside the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure, increasing competition for components used across consumer electronics and data centres.

Amazon is not alone in passing some of those costs on to customers.

Apple has raised prices on some Macs and iPads, while Microsoft has increased prices for Xbox consoles and reduced the availability of its 2TB configuration. PC makers including Dell, HP, Lenovo and Asus have also raised prices or changed memory configurations as component costs rise.

For Amazon, the price increase is notable because its hardware business has traditionally been built around relatively affordable devices that also help drive users towards its wider ecosystem.

The company, however, said it still wants to keep its products accessible and plans to run promotions across its lineup during the year.

Amazon's AI spending adds to memory demand

The price increases also come as Amazon is sharply increasing spending on AI infrastructure.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy told investors in July that the company expects capital expenditure to reach $220 billion this year, up from its earlier estimate of $200 billion. Much of that spending is going towards building and equipping data centres for AI services. Higher memory costs were among the factors behind the revised estimate.

Jassy has also indicated that Amazon's AI infrastructure capacity may remain below demand. He said the company would not have enough capacity to meet all the demand it expects in 2026 and that the situation could continue into 2027.

That creates a difficult equation for electronics companies: the same AI boom driving demand for computing infrastructure is also competing for components used in everyday consumer devices.

For Amazon customers, that pressure is now showing up directly on the price tags of Echo, Kindle, Fire TV and eero products.
