A truck driver leaves his job, sells house to tour the world with wife and daughters; he still earns £1,000 a week
After the pandemic, former HGV driver Lee Bodell made a life-changing decision to travel globally with his family. Moving from a career-focused routine to embracing remote work and family adventures, they sold their house for £330,000. With an onl...

From workholic to a family man
Lee used to work up to 50 hours a week as an HGV driver. Reportedly, he even did not took a single sick day before the Covid pandemic. But Covid changed all that.“What first triggered it off was during Covid I was placed on furlough and was off work for 10 weeks. I was always a workaholic and never missed a day off work in eight years being sick and I was constantly doing overtime. Spending 10 weeks at home with the family completely changed my mind set on life and I thought ‘I want to do this full-time’,” Lee was quoted as saying by the Mirror.
Earning while travelling
But he had to find some ways to earn money. So before going on a world trip, Lee began searching for ways to earn money and eventually built an online business. “It’s mostly buying and selling on eBay and Amazon and I have my own Shopify store. It should give us enough income to keep us travelling and even settle down somewhere in the future," he says.Lee reportedly now earns between £500 and £1,000 a week by remotely selling solar panels for mobile homes through eBay and his own website, working just about 10 hours a week.
And to see if he can manage the business while travelling, Lee and family took a trip in May 2025. They rented a villa in Cyprus for 10 days to check if they can manage the business online. And it worked.
Convinced, they came back home and set the plan in motion. First they sold their house £330,000 in July this year, leaving them with £140,000 in equity, reported the Mirror. The they sold their belongings and car which helped fund their trip.
Lee's partner Aimee Bedford says they are very careful while spending money and usually avoid tourist places. “We’d reached the point where we really felt like we just existing rather than living. We had jobs and the kids were attending school all day long and we were lucky if we had two hours with them at the end of the day. We wanted more time to experience life together," she told the Mirror.
Their daughters, Matilda-May (10) and Mila (9), have deregistered from school and now learning as they travel. The family said to have already travelled through the Netherlands, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and Italy. “We knew it would be more expensive in Europe and at the end of it when we get to Southeast Asia we will easily be living on £2,000 per month all in,” Aimee hoped.
Once their travel is over, the family hopes to settle outside the UK permanently.
