MONTGOMERY: British pharamaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline PLC says it will appeal a nearly $81 million verdict in a lawsuit that accused it of overcharging a state health insurance program.

A jury in Montgomery on Tuesday found the company liable. It also found Novartis Pharmaceuticals liable for about $33 million in similar damages. Attorneys for Novartis have said they are considering their options and may appeal.

An attorney for the state says letters have been sent to 69 other companies with drug pricing lawsuits pending against them. State officials are giving them 30 days to settle the state's claims.
