German industrial output falls again in April: Ministry

German industrial production declined again in April, the ministry of industry said on Friday, providing another sign that Europe's biggest economy is slowing down.

BERLIN: German industrial production declined again in April, the ministry of industry said on Friday, providing another sign that Europe's biggest economy is slowing down.

Output decreased by 0.8 per cent compared to the previous month, the ministry said, the same rate as in March.
On Thursday, the economy ministry said industrial orders had fallen for the fifth straight month in April, declining 1.8 per cent on a monthly basis after a fall of 0.5 per cent in March.

Economist Alexander Koch at UniCredit Markets said that a deterioration in the business outlook in major trading partner countries "clearly signals continuing softer foreign demand growth ahead."

Matthias Rubisch at Commerzbank added: "As a result, industry can be expected to shift down a gear and the second quarter could actually see output shrinking."
