DUBAI/UAE: General Electric says it has signed a $45 million deal with Dubai Aluminium Company to service gas turbines used to power the smelter's production site.

The Fairfield, Connecticut-based company's GE Energy unit says the seven-year deal aims to lower production costs and cut harmful nitrogen oxide emissions by 15 percent.

The deal covers parts, performance updates, repairs and on-site service.

State-owned Dubai Aluminium, or Dubal, operates 19 GE gas turbines at its production facility on Dubai's outskirts. It can produce up to 960,000 tons of aluminum annually, and counts customers in 48 countries.
