France's immigration minister faces new tensions

France's immigration minister is meeting with top police officials after a second fire at a holding center for illegal immigrants.

PARIS: France's immigration minister is meeting with top police officials after a second fire at a holding center for illegal immigrants.

Brice Hortefeux's office said today that he is assessing the situation in Administrative Retention Centers.

The largest one, west of Paris, burned down in June. Mattresses were set afire over the weekend at a second center outside Paris.

Two suspects were tried yesterday but acquitted. Justice Minister Rachida Dati is appealing the decision.

Hortefeux said yesterday that he is filing a complaint against a group that supports illegal immigrants for allegedly inciting unrest at the center.
