Egypt's government confirms oil has leaked from one of several rigs operating off the coast of the Red Sea resort Hurghada.

CAIRO: Egypt's government confirms oil has leaked from one of several rigs operating off the coast of the Red Sea resort Hurghada.

The city is one of Egypt's top tourist destinations and oil has washed up on beaches in the area.

Government spokesman Magdy Rady says the amount of oil that leaked was “limited,” but he does not say how much.

He says the spill was detected last week and has been largely contained, in comments carried by the official Middle East News Agency on Monday.
