EADS to sell Airbus plants to Spirit AeroSystems: Report
The European aerospace group EADS is to decide this week to sell three Airbus factories in Germany to the US group Spirit AeroSystems.
Airbus plants in the northern towns of Varel and Nordenham along with one in southern Augsburg have been up for sales for months but the affair has dragged on and in October the German firm Voith abandoned its bid.
The business daily Handelsblat said Tuesday that of the two remaining candidates, Spirit and German company OHB, the directors of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS) clearly prefer the former.
Spirit is based in Wichita, Kansas, and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
It describes itself as the world's largest supplier of commercial airplane assemblies and components, and produces wing components and structural parts for Airbus' US rival Boeing.
